Do Your Kids Eat Vegetable with Gusto?

Is eating the right kind of food a power struggle for you with children? Eating 3-5 servings of vegetables and 2-3 serving of fruits may seem a whole lot to kids but this is what the food pyramid has suggested us for a healthy and long life. Eating the right kind of food with children is not an easy subject. Kids tend to be so picky as they grow up no matter how you train them when they were younger. Believe me I have two of my own. As years pass by their food preference changes. Perhaps seeing the number of tv ads that promises the goodness of junk foods when there is really nothing to it contributes to their choices. In the recent research it shows that it is just not environmental infuence that plays a factor to this but also our genes. A study has been made and found out that some genes are responsible for children’s aversion to bitter taste. It is in understanding this that we will be able to find some ways and means on how to help children really eat what is best for them.
Recently I have seen my two picky eaters eat with gusto with the vegetable stew I made for them. Never have I seen them doing that for a long time. I have a six- year old and a seven-year old who kept on begging for more of the vegetable stew I made for them. Would you like to know my secret? This is what I made for my vegetable stew:
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups water
a dash of salt
1/2 tomato cut into slices
1/2 onion sliced and fried
squash 1 cup
taro 1 cup
1lb fish fried
1/2 cup string beans
1/2 cup spinach
1/2 cup sweet potato leaves
Cooking instructions:
1. Boil the 2 1/2 cups of water.
2. Put the squash and taro on the boiling water until soft.
3. Fry the fish and onion then put them in the boiling water.
4. Put the rest of the other ingredients to the boiling water until cooked.
5. Sprinkle a dash of salt and serve.
This is so good when served with rice.
